30 Days of Witchcraft ~ 30-Day Challenge ~ Day 22 Voodoo/Hoodoo

Day 22! I'm impressed! I never finish these 30 day things LOL! If you're just joining, this is my 30 Days of Witchcraft, "Write Your Craft" Challenge. Today we're going to go a little deeper into the cultural roots involved in spirituality, and discuss Voodoo & Hoodoo. Hoodoo is more like our eclectic witchcraft, while Voodoo is a religion.

If you want to learn more, come inside, Bondye awaits, children.

Voodoo
As a monotheistic culture, Bondye, or Gran Mèt la, is the Haitian God of the Vodouists. He created the universe and is the ultimate source of power, who maintains universal harmony. He is the one God of Vodouists and as such there he has o antagonist, no opposing "satan" figure. He does not directly intercede in humans lives.

Vodouists pay homage and in turn his Loa, or Iwa, spirit workers do the work. They are Rada (benevolent spirits), Petro (angry, violent, or evil spirits) and Gede (those who deal with the dead. Vodouists call upon the Loa they need, they get permission from Bondye, and they do what is needed. Like most practices, it is best to be VERY CLEAR in what one is asking.

Hoodoo
Much like witchcraft is a practice and Wicca is a religion, so are Hoodoo & Voodoo. Hoodoo is an ancient folk magic. Things such as roots, herbs, crystals, animal parts, and the occasional bodily fluid (yes, any of them) of the person the ritual us for are used in their rituals. Practitioners usually define themselves as Catholics who believe in Christian and African Gods. They will use biblical scripture, such as Psalms, in some rituals, but address the African Gods. Hoodoo passes to descendants much like witchcraft knowledge has in the past.

I encourage you to do more research on these amazing cultures just for the history if yiu have time!
