Day 21, the start of week 3 of our 30 Days of Witchcraft "Write Your Craft" challenge. Three week! You have no idea what that means for me in terms of dedication. I never finish these things.. and now I've planned the next 4 months! 😅 If you've been here before, thanks for sticking around. If you're new, thank you for joining me.
I'm getting a little whimsical today, talking about The Fae. Do you believe? Maybe you should.
What are Fae?
I feel like I need to write this one when the kiddo wakes up, but then the list would get too long LOL!
Fae are the whimsical creatures we hear about in fairytales:
- fairies (this is kind of a catchall term used for about 700 years now)
- pixies
- sprites
- nymphs
- dryads
- elves
- gnomes
- leprechauns
- will o'wisps
- mermaids
- selkies
- kelpie
- banshees
- changelings
and in some cases:
- unicorns
- dragons
You see, the fae are fickle creatures. They want acknowledged, they want attention, but they don't want you to know they are there.
A few I know are:
- a natural ring of mushrooms, flowers, or other plants is a sign of fae
- a light flickering in the forest is probably will o'wisps, and you possibly shouldn't follow
- you can create a plant circle in your garden to invite them
- you can invite them into your home on their best behavior for the winter, but if you do not ask them to leave at springtime, mischief will ensue
- never give a fae your true name, it will use it for mischief
- they aren't fond of being called fairies
- they are liminal creatures and, as such, live between worlds
- as all creatures, they can be wild and carefree, or wild and dangerous; they are difficult to understand because they are simply not of our world - they are dark, light, and in-between
- THEY LIKE TO HIDE THINGS!
- with the proper work and patience, they could be familiars - albeit feisty ones
- don't strike a deal with a fae if you do not intend to honor it
- and if you initiated contact - you already agreed
While fae are seen as fun whimsical things, and can be, use caution in your belief or non-belief.
