Welcome back, Witches! Today is day 19 of my 30 Days of Witchcraft "Write Your Craft" writing challenge. Today, We're talking about chants ~ one of those things people look at us a little crazy for, but I find it cathartic!
What are chants?
Chants are usually just words used in your spells or rituals. Sometimes it’s prose, sometimes it’s rhyme, and sometimes it’s repetitive. If you’ve never used a repetitive chant, think of the Catholic Rosary.
The repetitive nature of the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be that is said is in itself chant. If you’ve ever heard it done in latin, in song ~ you’d understand. It’s hauntingly beautiful. And it is done in this repetitive nature to bring strength and power to the words.
Pagan, mystical/witchcraft chants are done for the same reason - to bring strength and power to the words. It also helps make them memorable, so that you can do them by rote.
They are not required by any means, but try this next time you’re creating or saying a spell. Read it out loud and try to put “that” quality to it. See what you think!
