In my opinion, frostings should be versatile and yummy! Here’s a few of my faves!
Ingredients
- 2 cups chopped semisweet chocolate or chocolate chips
- 1-2 cups cream (light, whipping, or heavy) or milk, or a combination
- more or less makes a thinner or thicker frosting
- OPTIONAL: Coconut cream can be used to a vegan/dairy friendly ganache
- OPTIONAL: 1 tsp flavor extract of your choice
Instructions
- Combine the chocolate and cream in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Heat until the cream is very hot and the chocolate very soft.
- Stir to melt the chocolate completely, reheating very briefly if necessary.
- Add flavor extract if using.
- Cool slightly before using.
- Place cake over a cooling rack and pour over evenly.
- Chill cake slightly between coats if double layering.
- Rewarm frosting slightly in microwave, if needed. stir well before pouring.
Chocolate Frosting
Ingredients
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 5 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3-4 tbsp milk
Instructions
Whip butter until lightened.
- Whip butter until lightened.
- Sift cocoa into butter and mix well
- Mix in in vanilla and sift in powdered sugar.
- Slowly add milk until frosting is your desired thickness.
- Whip for 1-2 minutes for fluffiness!
- Frosts layered cake or 24 cupcakes.
Cream Cheese Frosting
Ingredients
- 2 8oz packages cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Directions
Instructions
- Sift powdered sugar.
- Cream cream cheese with an electric mixer.
- Add in butter and vanill and beat until light and fluffy.
- Slowly add powdered sugar, 1/2-1c at a time.
- After each addition turn mixer to high and beat until light and fluffy.
