Cake Frostings

In my opinion, frostings should be versatile and yummy! Here’s a few of my faves!


Ganache Frosting

Ingredients
  • 2 cups chopped semisweet chocolate or chocolate chips
  • 1-2 cups cream (light, whipping, or heavy) or milk, or a combination
    • more or less makes a thinner or thicker frosting
  • OPTIONAL: Coconut cream can be used to a vegan/dairy friendly ganache
  • OPTIONAL: 1 tsp flavor extract of your choice
Instructions
  1. Combine the chocolate and cream in a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Heat until the cream is very hot and the chocolate very soft.
  3. Stir to melt the chocolate completely, reheating very briefly if necessary.
  4. Add flavor extract if using.
  5. Cool slightly before using.
  6. Place cake over a cooling rack and pour over evenly.
  7. Chill cake slightly between coats if double layering.
  8. Rewarm frosting slightly in microwave, if needed. stir well before pouring.

Chocolate Frosting

Ingredients
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3-4 tbsp milk
Instructions
Whip butter until lightened.
  1. Whip butter until lightened.
  2. Sift cocoa into butter and mix well
  3. Mix in in vanilla and sift in powdered sugar.
  4. Slowly add milk until frosting is your desired thickness.
  5. Whip for 1-2 minutes for fluffiness!
  6. Frosts layered cake or 24 cupcakes.

Cream Cheese Frosting

Ingredients
  • 2 8oz packages cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Directions
Instructions
  1. Sift powdered sugar.
  2. Cream cream cheese with an electric mixer.
  3. Add in butter and vanill and beat until light and fluffy.
  4. Slowly add powdered sugar, 1/2-1c at a time.
  5. After each addition turn mixer to high and beat until light and fluffy.
